If you're just starting out then Taylor's Academy 10 is made for you. Too often new guitar players will give up because the instrument quality is just not up to scratch; poor tone, high action and bad intonation makes it easy to become disheartened and give up learning guitar. Taylor used a simple design philosophy when designing the Academy series - the best, for the most, with the least. Gone are the non-essentials such as the pickguard and body binding, in its place are features that make the guitar affordable and more comfortable to play such as the built-in armrest and shorter scale length. Using a Dreadnought body shape with Sitka spruce top, layered sapele back & sides, and a sapele neck with ebony fingerboard, Taylor have managed to keep quality materials in the guitar without bumping up the price. The end result is a warm sounding guitar that's incredibly accessible and great for all levels of players.
This Dreadnought distills the essential features of a great acoustic guitar into a budget-friendly form. Our Academy Series was designed with developing players in mind, so the goal was to create as comfortable a playing experience as possible. The guitar body pairs layered sapele back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, and incorporates a feature normally reserved for our premium instruments: a built-in armrest that softens the edge of the body’s bass-side lower bout to enhance the playing comfort. The patented Taylor neck features a slightly shorter 24-7/8-inch scale length, 1-11/16-inch nut width, and light gauge strings, which make fretting and bending strings easier. Tonally the Dreadnought’s body dimensions produce a bold response with a warm low end and punchy treble, making this a great option for strummers and flatpickers. Whether you’re at the front end of you guitar journey or just looking for a great strumming guitar without breaking the bank, the A10 will serve you well.
